The old you is dead – Taylor Swift and the Zombie Apocalypse

Do you feel like a part of you has died over the past few weeks? Like a whole new you is stepping onto the stage of your life for the first time? Like the old stories no longer make sense?

In her new video, Look What You Made Me Do Taylor perfectly captured the death of our old selves that so many of us have experienced in recent months.  She also recognized that she, like so many of us, was pushed into letting a big part of herself die. Someone in her life pissed her off to the point where she decided that every last bit of wimp was dead.

A chapter has closed for each of us in some way. When something leaves, it opens up room for something new to take its place.  Right now you are in a dark hallway between the old and the new.  My favorite part of the video is at the end, where all the Taylors past are lined up.  It’s a nod to all the different parts of her.  They have each served her well in their own way. Take a minute to acknowledge the closing of your personal chapter and thank all the different parts of you that have served you well. Then prepare to welcome in the new beginning the new story.

We have been spending our entire lives feeding our zombies. They take the form of anxiety, depression, self-punishment, fear, invisibility, hiding our power, among others. The zombie apocalypse is upon us. The time for feeding and pandering to our zombies is over. Every last bit of wimp that was in you is dead. It is time for a little slaying. Your personal zombies have followed you around draining your power long enough. It is time. Rest assured, you are capable of so much more than you know.
